5 Tips on How to Choose A Suitable Face Cream
In order to keep your skin looking at its’ most beautiful, dermatologists will recommend that you use a skin cream – or moisturizer – on a daily basis.
Every day, your skin sheds dead cells, and collects dirt and bacteria. Using a face cream will remove these but has the unfortunate effect of removing moisture as well. It is water in the skin – not oil – which keeps it looking healthy and plump. If you remove water from your skin, it becomes dry – which can lead to wrinkles.
Dermalogica face creams keep water in the skin by one of two methods. This is either by stopping it from escaping in the first place or drawing moisture upwards from the lower layers of skin. The problem is, how do you know which sort of moisturizer to use?
Skin Type
The first thing to understand is your skin type. According to the Sixth Sense Beauty Clinic, if you have a sensitive skin, which many people do, you need to look for face cream which is oil-free – and preferably free of fragrances. If your skin tends to be more of the oily type, you need what are called noncomedogenic (yes, it’s a long word) types of face cream. All that means, is that they do not clog up the pores of the skin. The FDA does not require that manufacturers disclose the actual amount of each ingredient in the product, but they are listed in the order of amount.
What Do You Want to Achieve?
Of course, you have to know what it is that you want to achieve. This might be to hydrate the skin if you have a dry type (because it is constantly losing moisture), or to prevent your skin from losing moisture which is being brought up from the lower layers of the dermis.
Allergies
The next thing to understand is that you have to avoid any ingredients that might cause you an allergic reaction. This can obviously be a problem if you are not aware that you have any allergies.
However, whenever you try a face cream, you need to be aware that it is always possible to have an allergic reaction. If this should occur, you need to take a note of the ingredients in the product. You may need to visit your health practitioner in order to test for an allergy, if you are not sure which ingredient has caused the problem.
Price
One every important point to note is that, very often, the price of a face cream is irrelevant. Just because it costs €75 a jar, does not mean that it is right for you, nor that it will perform any better than a face cream which costs €15. Certainly, you may be provided with a list of herbs and exotic fruits contained in the cream, but that can mean very little, and is usually only there to try to convince you how superior the product is and to justify an exorbitant price.
If you have any doubts at all, your best bet is to Google the ingredients before you decide to buy. You may be very surprised.
Your Input
Finally, one word of warning. Even if you find the perfect face cream for you – and we hope that you will – a face cream on its’ own cannot perform miracles without some help from you. You have to have a little input as well. By this, we mean getting a good night’s sleep, taking some regular exercise (this does not have to be excessive; it can be as little as walking for 30 minutes a day), and a healthy diet.
Nothing is worse for your skin than a diet of burgers and chips every day. In our view, the only true word in the phrase “fast food” is the word “fast”. Food – or at least, healthy food – it is most certainly not.
